Service-Learning

WHAT IS SERVICE-LEARNING?

Service Learning is very similar to community service except that there is an intentional emphasis on critical reflection that connects the service time to learning objectives.  In other words, yes you will serve the community in some way, but we also want to know what you learned from having done the service.  In the process of completing their service, the student will document the method they used to accomplish their project, along with what they learned from having completed the service.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

  • Students in 9th-10th grades must complete 5 hours per semester.
  • Students in the 11th and 12th grades are required to complete 10 hours per semester.

WHERE TO SERVE?

Hours need to be completed at a not-for-profit organization.

EVALUATION OF STUDENT SERVICE-LEARNING

After completing their hours, students should turn in an essay to their teacher reflecting on what they learned by completing the service hours.
